This medication is used to treat insomnia problems, such as difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. The generic name for this is temazepam.
How it works
Restoril is a benzodiazepine. Temazepam is a medication that belongs to the class of drugs called sedative-hypnotics. Sedative-hypnotics are drugs that act on the brain by affecting the GABA. It does this by increasing the effect of the neurotransmitter GABA. As a result, this in turn causes sedation, motor impairment, and muscle relaxation.
Temazepam is approved for the short term treatment of insomnia, in addition to this it also has antianxiety, anticonvulsant and skeletal muscle relaxant aspects.
This medication helps you fall asleep quickly, helps you sleep longer and decreases the number of times you might wake up in the night. By causing drowsiness, which helps patients sleep.
The recommended adult dosage before going to sleep is usually 15 mg. It depends on the patients, as for some 7.5 mg is enough to make an impact while for certain individuals it can go up to 30 mg.

This drug is not to be used during pregnancy, as it may harm an unborn baby. Do not take this medication if you are thinking of becoming pregnant or are already pregnant.
This medication passes onto breast milk and may create negative effects on a nursing infant, so it’s always advised to be avoided during breast feeding.
